Tiger's Den Vol 35 - Letter
Dear Tiger Crew,
Happy Mother’s Day to the whole ensemble of brilliant, compassionate women who raised us: mothers, aunties, grandmothers, godmothers, sisters, and so many more! May we celebrate the life and legacy of those who welcomed us into the world and who continue to care for us.
Thank you for helping us celebrate Educator Appreciation Week in such meaningful ways this year. In a political climate where immigrant communities and bilingual education are frequently under threat, our faculty and staff continue to lead with courage, professionalism, and deep love for our students. They sustain hope amid historically challenging circumstances, showing up each day with perseverance, high expectations, and profound humanity. Because of their commitment, our community grows stronger together.
Thanks to your generosity and OCC's Teacher Appreciation Funds we were able to provide meals, sweets, flowers, some much needed school spirit attire, and even professional massages from Sandra Milena Carabali (samphysicaltherapy08@gmail.com). Our faculty highly recommends our comadre from Colombia if ever you're looking to treat yourself 🥰.

Fiesta!
Our time-honored tradition, Fiesta!, is coming next weekend. We look forward to seeing everyone at the Oyster campus for a day of community and fun, from 11 am – 3 pm on Saturday, May 16. Join Sr. Salvador and his amazing band for a performance, enjoy an onsite taco stand, a balloon artist, and a field full of carnival games. Volunteers are needed so please take a moment to signup for a slot or two while the kids have fun enjoying all the activities! Check out the posting in the Enrichment section and click here to volunteer!

LSAT Elections
The Local School Advisory Team (LSAT) is an elected committee of parents and teachers that advises school leadership on school-wide academic and governance issues, including the comprehensive school plan and the proposed school budget. The LSAT will have its annual elections for parent representatives. This year we will have 4 parent spots: 2 English dominant and 2 Spanish dominant. Out of these 4 spots, we need representation from both campuses, and a range of grade levels. Each position is a commitment of 2 years. We would love nominations! For more information, see the posting inside of Family Leadership.
Book Talk at Oyster
Thank you to Kashmira Sheth, Ishan and Lucia's wonderful grandmother and published author, who came to share her journey as an author and her work with our students. Her body of work about the immigrant and refugee experience is profoundly moving (highly recommend "Taking Flight" about children's lives in refugee camps). We are deeply gratetful for her contributions to children's literature, and to our own community as students got to learn about her childhood in Punjab, and how it's influenced her work. We are so proud to be a community of multilingual learners and deep cultural weath.
Oyster-Adams Track and Field Championship Celebrations
We are pleased to celebrate that yesterday, the Elementary School Track and Field team completed a successful season. The boys finished 10th out of 23 schools and had many personal bests in their events. And the girls were able to take home the trophy for 2nd place with many top 3 medals earned throughout the meet at Coolidge HS! Bravo teams, way to represent our Tigers everywhere you go!

With pride and gratitude,
Carolina Brito
