Field Trips at OA
At Oyster-Adams, we offer exciting local trips and activities for students in Prek4 - 8th grade throughout their school year. These experiences help students safely build independence, manage time, and develop resilience—skills they'll use on future overnight and international trips in middle school.
In middle school, students put their language and cultural knowledge into action, connecting with locals and enjoying adventurous, hands-on experiences on our overnight trips.
Field trip chaperones
To become a volunteer chaperone at Oyster-Adams, parents/guardians must complete a DCPS clearance before chaperoning or volunteering with any DCPS student, school, or office.
Please review the guidance to complete this mandatory process. Please note, there is no cost associated with obtaining a background check but we encourage you to begin the clearance process as soon as possible. For overnight experiences, volunteers are not permitted.
Overnight Experiences for Middle School:
At Oyster-Adams, we are committed to becoming Global Citizens. As such, we strive to give ALL students an opportunity to experience travel to at least 1 Spanish speaking community outside the continental US by the time they graduate. We are committed to cost not being a barrier for family participation, which is why every class fundraises to ensure that as many students as possible can come on these critical experiences. Fundraising subsidizes cost for Free and Reduced Meal (FARM) eligible families, and allows us to give a sliding scale for qualifying students.
ALL INFORMATION IS TENTATIVE AND IS BASED ON PREVIOUS YEARS’ INFORMATION. DATES AND PRICES WILL VARY. Please note that some of these prices were lowered due to the phenomenal fundraising efforts of our families.
(6th) Camp Horizons: Students participate in activities that push them to rely on teamwork through experiential education. The team at Camp Horizons together with OA staff safely encourage students to push, learn about themselves, and grow with the use of carefully curated outdoor curriculum.

(7th) Puerto Rico: 7th grade students have the opportunity to travel to Puerto Rico for a genuine experience of culture, adventure, and connection on this beautiful island. A blend of service and fun.
- Dates: May 5 - 12
- Price: $3,150 [FARM: $2,500 or below]. Last year cost was brought down significantly for all because of the cohort's intense fundraising efforts!
(7th) DC Adventures-Alternative to PR: Students enjoy a variety of local outdoor and indoor activities that are curated by the teachers so students can have a fun and enjoyable time as well as give back to the community through a service component. (Modified from last year)

(8th) Costa Rica: For their last year at OA, students travel to Costa Rica for a rich environmental and academic experience where they also engage in a social component where students volunteer in over 8 hours of social service experiences while exploring the wonders of Costa Rica.
Dates: May 28 - June 5

(8th) Alternative EOY Celebration: For students not engaging in the trip to CR, 8th graders go to the Big Apple! Students enjoy what the city has to offer through a hop on/hop off bus, attend a play of their choice, and enjoy family-styled meals.

(8th) Alternative EOY Celebration #2: Students who aren’t headed to Costa Rica or NYC will explore DC attractions and hidden gems that tourists travel thousands of miles to see!

7th and 8th Grade Chinese Program Trip to China or Taiwan: This trip takes place every other year and is scheduled to occur during the 2027–2028 school year.
