Tiger's Den Vol 26 - Letter

Buenos días tigres,

Welcome to March, and the first hopeful whispers of Spring! This week we're proud to feature our students in all kinds of collective achievements, from STEM Competitions to PreK4 Olympics!

Several of our outstanding OA Basketball players have been selected to compete in the HoopsKids Elite DC Middle School All-Star Game on March 4th. Being chosen recognizes these student-athletes as some of the top middle school players in the city. We could not be more proud of the way they represent Oyster-Adams with skill, sportsmanship, and heart. ¡Felicidades Santiago, Azul, Annabella, y Lucia!

Speaking of brilliant team endeavors, we want to celebrate 6th Graders Diya, Priya, and Hannah for representing Oyster-Adams for the first time in the Foxcroft STEAM Challenge and earning 3rd Place in one of the competition challenges! Their creativity, collaboration, and perseverance truly stood out. A special thank you to their faculty sponsor, Jan Schuettpelz, for giving up her Saturday to support our burgeoning scientists in stretching their Math and Science skills. And much gratitude to Oyster parent, Michelle Caputy Reynolds, for creating that partnership opportunity for us!

A huge shout-out to Rebeca Rodriguez and Jenny Delgado for their fantastic leadership of the Embassy Adoption Program. By coordinating with embassy liaisons and attending specialized training, they have successfully partnered our students with Argentina, Costa Rica, and Spain. Through this initiative, 5th graders are diving deep into international culture, tourism, and environment, culminating in final projects presented at the embassies. They even secured an artist-in-residence to collaborate with Sr. Castro on percussion instruction. We also want to recognize the entire 5th grade team for their flexibility in adjusting schedules and curriculum to support this valuable Model UN experience.

The joy keeps coming with a kuddos to our PreK crew for organizing the first ever PreK Winter Olympics in the Oyster Gym! We appreciate Sr. Serrano y Sra. Gracia for organizing sack races, imaginary pony rides, and feats of strength and agility to finish off our Unit on exercise. Families, we appreciate you jumping in as judges, organizers, and cheerleaders too!

Finally, in celebration of our upcoming Earth Day, and as part of the 6th Grade Science Unit, Noor and Priya are going to provide you with a weekly sustainability challenge! They would love for you and your entire family to participate and record your data in the form included in their proposal. Check it out here! They will be graphing the data and collecting the ecological impact of our collective decisions as a community!

¡Nos vemos el lunes!
