Newsletter - April 12th

Hope everyone is well and beginning to enjoy this great weather we have been having lately. I wanted to remind everyone that the school will be closed to students and teachers next week as part of the Spring Break. Wishing everyone a restful and glorious Spring Break and for those who might be traveling, have a safe trip. Both Oyster and Adams @ Meyer will be open for re-enrollment and support next week except for Tuesday in observance of Emancipation Day.

It is that time of year and we are eagerly awaiting families to re-enroll our tigers. As a school it is our goal to have at least 60% of our students re-enrolled by May 1st and we are very far from meeting that goal at this time. Please support the effort by either coming to the school next week to re-enroll your child (we will be here to support) or using this link to complete the re-enrollment process online. Enrollment is a critical piece in maintain the programs we currently have because all funding is based on the number of students enrolled.

I wanted to send a warm heartfelt thanks to the many families, staff and community partners who helped to make Monday’s Eclipse viewing one to remember. We had a great turn out of adults that supported our students, teacher who volunteered their time to remain at the school and spend this time with our kids and lots of behind the scenes work that was led by the Science teams at both campuses and support from our partners at OCA. Great job by everyone involved and most importantly the students had a blast. Photos of the event were shared on the school’s Instagram account @oysteradams_tigers.

This weekend DKN will be televising the recording from this year’s DC Spelling Bee. 5th Grader Liam Roberts and 7th Grader Emilia Constantyn represented OA in great fashion and if you would like to see them Spelling like they mean it please tune in. The times and dates are Friday, April 12 at 6 pm and Saturday, April 13 at 10 am.

Our 7th graders who visited Spain are coming home this weekend. I have had the privilege of reading their posts on the blog they are journaling in, and it has been a wonderful experience for so many of them. I would like to share some of the common themes that came up. Students felt their hosts were very caring and made sure they got everything they needed. Some students were surprised by some of the foods they enjoyed and are glad that they were vulnerable to try them. Many students were nervous and uncomfortable arriving at the hosts’ homes but soon began to feel more comfortable there. So proud of our tigers and how well they represented themselves, our school and their families.

This year we have had a group of students publishing a Bimonthly the Middle School Newspaper. Ms. Palacios, Ms. Suarez and Ms. Mendoza have been supporting the students in this endeavor. Below please find the March/ April publication.

Our 4th and 5th graders completed the CAPE test for Mathematics this past week and will be completing the English Language Arts CAPE exams on the week of 4/22 when they return from the break.

Report Cards are being completed and updated over the Spring Break and will be printed and sent home on May 1st, 2024.

Wishing you all a great Spring Break!
