Interim Principal Farewell
I hope that this letter finds each of you well. Serving as the interim principal and assistant principal of Oyster-Adams (OA) has been such a privilege, so it is with mixed feelings that I send this letter to inform you that I will not be returning as your principal for School Year 2024-2025.
I remember as if it were yesterday attending my first Oyster-Adams Community Council (OCC) Auction, musical, Festival de Poesia, spelling bee, science fair, or sporting event. I am thankful for all that I have learned in the years I have spent at OA, and I appreciate being able to serve our community wholeheartedly.
The Oyster-Adams community welcomed me as its assistant principal in 2014. The years that have transpired since are filled with pride for our collaborative accomplishments. From Oyster-Adams being recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a 2020 National Blue Ribbon School for academic excellence to showing continuous improvement in closing the achievement gap across race, socio-economic levels, language, and learning differences, we have thrived.
As my time with Oyster-Adams ends, I reflect on our students' joy, accomplishments, and tenacity on display every day in this community. It is truly remarkable. I hope to have the chance to say farewell to as many of you as possible before I transition to a new role, and I look forward to supporting a smooth leadership transition.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for trusting me to be a part of your child's educational journey. It has been one of my greatest joys as an educator.
With gratitude,
Peter (Panagiotis) Meliotis
Interim Principal, Oyster-Adams Bilingual School
