Happy First Day of School!

Happy First Day of School! We are happy to see our Tigers back on campus! I’m reaching out to provide an update on the transportation to and from Meyer.

I’d like to start by thanking everyone for their patience, feedback and support while we adjust to these new transportation procedures for our community. I sincerely apologize for any confusion or miscommunications. I also want to reiterate our full commitment to getting this right. Every student that needs transportation will receive it and any family that needs to make an adjustment to their transportation needs will be able to do so.

We recognize that bus capacity, timing, and communication have been a challenge to start. We are working closely within the agency and with our transportation vendor to make the appropriate long-term corrections. Until then, we will communicate updates daily to the full community via email and personal communications to impacted families.

Updates

We’ve updated rosters for this afternoon and tomorrow based on feedback we received from individual families. We’re also reaching out to families who requested transportation but did not take the buses this morning. We’ve met with the central office to adjust the schedules for tomorrow based on the number of allocated buses and lessons learned from today’s timing.

For this afternoon:

  • All students that requested transportation will board a bus at Meyer and will arrive at their designated drop off. However, due to the capacity challenges we may need to run two loops of buses and therefore some students will ride the second loop and will not arrive at their drop off points until 4:30.

  • Caregivers with students riding on the second loop will receive a phone call from OA staff.

  • Damian Popkin will be on site at Marie Reed assisting students and parents. He can be contacted at: [email protected] (202.615.9153)

  • Deshundria Fortson will be at the Oyster campus to receive students (202.480.3260).

For tomorrow morning:

  • In an effort to ensure all students arrive to Meyer on time and given the current bus allotment, we have adjusted the schedule to earlier departure times. Please see the revised schedule below.  If you have any questions, please reach out directly to me at [email protected]

Bus Schedules (exact departure times and arrival times are estimated and dependent on traffic)

Marie Reed to Meyer

  • Bus A departs at 8:00 a.m. The bus will loop and depart again at 8:25 a.m.

Oyster to Meyer

  • Bus B departs at 8:00 a.m. and will loop and depart at 8:30am

  • Bus C departs at 8:20 a.m.

Oyster Adams Family—I know this has been a messy start. Thank you again for your advocacy and support. Please know that I am prioritizing this issue and deeply committed to getting this right. If you have further feedback for me, I welcome and appreciate it!
