Tiger's Den Vol 36 - Letter
Hola Tigres,
What an incredible Fiesta 2026 celebration! Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped create such a joyful day filled with community spirit and joy. From the game booths, face painting, arts and crafts, taco truck, bake sale treats, to the fantastic live performance by Sr. Salvador’s salsa band (¡woohoo, Tumbao!), the energy was unforgettable. We owe an enormous collective debt of gratitude to the dozens of families who dedicate time to make this event happen every year (and Emily Grinstead, OCC Events Chair who rallies us all)! They started planning months ago for this moment, and we are grateful for your passion for this community. A special shoutout to the patient, generous students who allowed me to learn face painting for the first time with them!
And of course, the annual Faculty vs. Families basketball game brought the excitement—with a big congratulations to our families for a well-earned victory! Worry not, faculty will be back with a vengeance next year😊!

May at Adams
First off, we are proud to celebrate an incredible accomplishment among our 8th Grade students! On May 14th, the Class of 2026 took on the rigorous AP Spanish Language and Culture Exam—and emerged triumphant after several hours of focused effort. Students who earn a score of 3 or higher may qualify for college credit or advanced placement in university language courses, making this an extraordinary milestone—especially for students who have not yet begun high school. This achievement is a powerful reflection of their dedication, perseverance, and the strength of our bilingual program.
Felicidades a los estudiantes por su dedicación y perseverancia y a la Sra. Castro y todos los maestros de español que hacen posible nuestro programa. ¡Estamos muy orgullosos de ustedes!

Our 7th Graders are returning this week from a week of intense adventures! While one half of the class went to Puerto Rice, the other half engaged in geological adventures across the DMV @ Luray Caverns, Ropes Courses, the National Acquarium, and the Udvar-Hazy Air + Space Museum. Whether checking out ancient geological formations close to home, or traveling through el Yunque and Old San Juan, our 7th Graders had a blast. Thank you to all the families who hustled hard to make all these adventures possible for ALL students through intense fundraising! Our students and faculty chaperones are deeply grateful for it.
We look forward to reporting back in a couple of weeks on the China trip for 7th and 8th grade as well!
Tech Guidelines for Oyster-Adams SY26-27
We know there's been a lot of interest nationally and locally in the role of EdTech in public education. At OA, we've been engaging in our own internal dialogues about it for a few months, and are excited to share updates on that work. Additionally, as recently as this week, DCPS has taken a policy stance on technology and tech opt-outs that we also include in this letter. We highly encourage families to read this week's post. In this larger letter to our community, I offer the faculty-vetted guidelines we'll be following in SY26-27, and an opportunity to chat with me about it.
We look forward to seeing everyone at the Festival de Poesia this week on both campuses!
Un abrazo fuerte,
Carolina Brito, Directora
