Mini United Nations: 5th Grade

We congratulate a crew of 5th grade students for their outstanding participation in the Mini United Nations, through the DCP Embassy Adoption program.

At a conference at the Ronald Reagan Center, our students proudly and committedly represented Spain and Mexico. They thoroughly researched how climate change affects these countries and, based on their findings, advocated for resolutions that promote the immediate reduction of carbon emissions, as well as funding assistance for communities affected by this global crisis. They practiced together for several weeks, and it was truly inspiring to see them act as global citizens committed to a fairer and more sustainable future. Thank you to Ms. Rodriguez and Ms. Santos for making the experience possible, and congratulations to our delegates for their exceptional work and their powerful voice!

6th Grade Science Exhibition – Small Actions, Big Impacts!

Over the past eight weeks, students researched ways to reduce energy and resource consumption, and then put those ideas into practice in their own lives!

Throughout the project, they collected data, created graphs, and quantified the real impact of their environmental decisions. From turning off video games to reducing water usage or avoiding disposable products, every small action added up to major resource conservation. The results were impressive and reflect the power of science applied to everyday life. After listening to so many presentations about the power of shortening showers, I'm gonna start setting a timer on mine.

We are very proud of their commitment to the environment and their dedication to creating a more sustainable world. Thank you, Ms. Scheuttpelz for giving them that important opportunity!

Congratulations to our Middle School Math Champions! 🎉

Our 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students recently participated in the DCPS @ Google Middle School Math Competition, where they had the opportunity to showcase their Math skills and teamwork alongside an impressive group of students from across our city.

Our talented students won in the following categories:

  • Rapid Response Calculations
  • Logical Leap
  • Solutions Stacks

They practiced and studied for several weeks with support from the OA Math Department, and during the competition, they were supported by the marvelous Ms. Grullón. Thanks to her, they were able to arrive at the event with calm, confidence, and determination—despite encountering community violence en route to the competition.

We are incredibly proud of their effort and the outstanding way they represented our school!

Thank You for an Unforgettable AAPI Celebration!

We want to extend our sincerest thanks to all the students and families who enthusiastically collaborated to make our celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month (AAPI) possible.

During our 6th and 8th grade festivals, students proudly shared their family traditions and stories, celebrated the richness of their languages, countries, and even delighted us with truly impressive culinary demonstrations. It was an experience filled with joy, learning, and community. In sixth grade, the initiative was led by Aria Wong along with a team of committed families, who are helping us to form a community of Global Citizens. Their leadership and inspiration made a difference.

For next year, we hope to expand this celebration to both campuses, and will be inviting families who wish to contribute ideas, stories, and flavors to continue building this beautiful tradition together.

With gratitude,

Carolina Brito, Directora de OA
