As part of this project, Reagan National Airport will host an opening reception for students, families, and community members on May 6th. We are incredibly proud of our student artists and grateful to the educators who nurture their creativity every day! Can't wait to share the pictures after the ceremony!

In other exciting news, Oyster students were delighted by an author visit for How the Moon Got Up In the Sky: Grandmother Moon Tells a Tale. The experience included a live musical performance and a captivating, theatrical storytelling session, as Ms. Deborah "Spice" Kleinmann (Ms. Kleinmann's sister) acted out the book and brought the story vividly to life. Students also enjoyed the opportunity to meet Ms. "Spice," ask questions, and connect personally with the story—making it a joyful and memorable celebration of literacy, culture, and imagination. Thank you to our librarian, Ms. Kleinmann, for make this beautiful moment happen for our community!

Additionally, I’m happy to share that May 4–8 is Educator Appreciation Week at Oyster‑Adams. Throughout the week, we take time to appreciate the collective work of our educators. At OA, we believe everyone on the team is an educator—whether you teach math, support self‑regulation, or help keep our community spaces clean and welcoming. If you would like your students to honor the educators who have made a difference in your family’s life, here are a few simple ideas for the week. There is no expectation to do all of these and we encourage families to spread the love across many staff members who support our students every day:
Mon: Draw a picture, write athank-you note, or write apoem.
Tues: Bring a flower, make a flower, or draw a flower!
Wed: Bring your teachers'favorite sweet (for example, fruit, chocolate)!
Thur: Bring an Office Supply your teacher needs!
Fri: Bring your teachers' favoritesavory snacks (for example, pretzels, seaweed)!
Room parents, if you could help us out by asking your teachers and partner teachers their preferences and communicating out to families, that would be enormously helpful!
Thank you all, your words and gestures—big or small—mean a great deal!
With pride and gratitude,
Carolina Brito
