Oyster Showcase
Last week, we welcomed the incredible Puerto Rican author Lulu Delacre, thanks to Ms. Kleinmann. Ms. Delacre visited with all our grades, singing songs, sharing the stories of her inspirations for her books, and encouraging all our students to pursue their dreams as artists and authors. As one student said, "today I learned that if there isn’t a book in the library that teaches what you need, that means it’s time to write it yourself." Thirty-five years ago, Lulu Delacre made history in our country by creating the first collection of Latin American songs and poems, "Arroz con Leche." Now she passes a torch to our students to continue creating and representing this generation.
In 1st grade, we celebrated our Unit showcase on ecosystems and evolutionary adaptations in animals. In Spanish, they explained the adaptations of animals in a given ecosystem using their knowledge of biology and anatomy. In English, they created an imaginary animal that showcased their favorite studied adaptations. The 1st Grade Team did an impressive job preparing their oral presentation skills in both languages. The cafeteria was filled with families, and the students looked so proud. In these showcases, we deeply appreciate the families who visit other students' presentations, it makes a world of difference in helping us raise our children in community and celebrate each child's growth and learning.

The energy was contagious as the middle school students danced the night away at the long-awaited Spring Dance! With a fantastic playlist from DJ Scott that kept everyone on their feet, exciting games that sparked friendly competition, and delicious food that helped raise funds for the 6th-grade class, it was a celebration to remember. Some even said it was the best dance yet! A big thank you to the Assembly student workers, Ms. Voorhees, and all the volunteer teachers for making this happen: your dedication turned this night into something truly special! Here is the photo from the musical chairs game 😀
A huge recognition to the organizers of the Elementary School Spelling Festival, the judges, and the master of ceremonies! Thanks to their effort, the 4th and 5th graders had the opportunity to showcase their amazing spelling skills in an exciting and competitive event. With 16 talented participants and two outstanding winners, each student demonstrated their commitment and enthusiasm. Additionally, the support from the guests made the event even more special, cheering on the competitors and celebrating every achievement. Congratulations to our winners, Emil Armando from 5th grade and Sebastián Hayeslip Duran from 4th grade!
And finally, this week, in music class, 5th-grade students welcomed Kevin and Steve from the Embassy of Spain, who shared their knowledge about traditional Spanish music. With a special focus on flamenco and the technique of clapping, the students discovered the passion and rhythm that make this artistic expression unique. Thank you, Kevin and Steve, for providing an unforgettable class full of culture and music.
See you this Saturday at Oyster to celebrate the Fiesta with the whole community!
