Tiger's Den Vol 26 - Letter
Dear families,
Happy weekend! In this edition of The Tiger's Den, we celebrate collective student achievements!
We start with the Oyster-Adams boys' elementary basketball team, who won an exciting victory of 23-15 over Ludlow-Taylor in the quarterfinals of the DCIAA Basketball Tournament and ended their season with an exciting game against Lafayette in the semifinals. Although we did not win the game against Lafayette, they earned the respect and admiration of the entire league for their perseverance and the demonstration of our values, particularly "living with grace." We celebrated a historic moment at OA, as it was the first time in decades that this team has advanced to the semifinals! Thanks to coaches Cedric, John, and Henry for giving their love, time, and patience to help our team grow in skill and values.
We also recognize the beautiful efforts of our 7th-grade students who have shown their creativity, generosity, and solidarity in creating events to raise funds for 7th-grade events and trips. Proceeds go to ensuring that students with financial need are able to participate in overnight field trips and funding end-of-year events. Starting in the fall with the fundraising committee's incredible food and t-shirt sales, this Winter, students dedicated themselves to sharing their talents with the world. This month we would like to recognize Annika and Azul, who raised funds with their handmade artisanry. Azul and her mom set up a beautiful empanada workshop at their home, while Annika and her family organized an event to sell her art work at a pop-up in DC. A local Puerto Rican artist, Lulu de la Croix, bought a piece to sponsor the cause! Together, the girls' efforts raised nearly $4000 for their class!

And finally, a shout-out and recognition to the amazing group organizing the African diaspora celebration at OA. Thanks to the students of the Black Affinity Group who organized a mini exhibition in the Adams hallway to close out the month together. They celebrated African American history and global Black history, as we represent so many corners of the world!
Warm regards,
Carolina Brito, Principal
