Tiger's Den Vol 13 - Letter
Greetings Oyster-Adams families,
This week we want to highlight the learning opportunities we create at Oyster-Adams that go beyond the walls of the classrooms—for our students and the adults in our community. In 2nd grade, we went to the National Portrait Gallery, and received art lessons from the museum's teachers. The children were able to practice their art, analyze the displayed works, and learn about the history of the painters.
In 3rd grade, we were able to celebrate the beauty of our city through the bilingual books created by our students, and presented to our families. We celebrated our neighborhoods with reports about their histories, typical food, and how people in a neighborhood form a community. Thank you to all the families who joined us to celebrate the learning of their students.
Finally, thanks to DCPS, we took a delegation from Oyster-Adams to the national dual language conference, La Cosecha, where Rosa Berrocal, Angeles Reza, and Amanda Cataneo from American University were chosen to present on their work training our teaching aides. I had the honor of presenting with Mayra Cruz and the Canizalez group on how to increase the presence and training of Latino leaders in dual language. We left the conference with new ideas, even more passion for our mission, and a desire to continue innovating and establishing bilingual excellence in our country!
And the best part was, that AP Morad and I convinced grammy-award winning artists 123 Andrés to come back and perform at Oyster!
