Newsletter - January 16th

I hope you are all enjoying your extended long weekend thanks to today’s snow day. It has been awesome working back at Oyster Adams these past two weeks and I am so pleased to have had the opportunity to return and work alongside you all. I am hoping to make some more classroom visits this week and make myself more available each morning as I have been spending a lot of my time since the winter break either completing training, learning new systems and getting up to speed on what the current work is at OA.

As we honored the memory and legacy of Dr. King this past Monday, I’d like to invite everyone to pause and reflect on how he led a non-violent resistance against systems of oppression through his eloquent speeches and actions. It’s difficult but needed work we are committed to doing at OA. We must continue to strive to be a community that is anti-racist.

Updates on the Adams Renovations: After speaking directly with Tania Shand, DCPS' point of contact for the day-to-day management of the Adam's campus modernization project, she reassured me that the project is on schedule for the target completion date.  She further shared this link to the Adams Modernization website.  On this site, you can find an abundance of information including a recording of the last SIT meeting, (Nov. 15th) where the most recent updates were shared.  The website will be updated later this month with January projects updates.  If you have any additional questions, please feel free to reach out to Tania Shand, [email protected] or, directly to me @ [email protected]

Principal Cafecito: I will be hosting Cafecito with the Principal at both campuses next week.  Please join me for some light breakfast snacks and some coffee at Oyster on Monday January 29th @ 8:45 am or at Meyers on Tuesday January 30th @ 8:45 am.  This will be an opportunity to receive some updates from these past few weeks and ask any questions you might have of me.

Boundary Study and Oyster Adams Programmatic Capacity Overview: For the first time in ten years, DCPS is asking for feedback and insight in redesignating boundaries to provide equity and access to students in the district.  There will be a listening and information session open to all on January 23rd @ 6:00 pm. The session will be hybrid.  The in-person option will take place at Meyers and the link to the virtual option will be made available later this week via a constant contact flyer.

Thanks, and please feel free to reach out if you have any questions [email protected]
