Adams Modernization Update

- Schematic Design. DCPS and the Design Team presented the schematic design and they want our feedback. Slides and Recording
- Update. At the beginning of the meeting, the Project Manager explained that DCPS leadership has directed the design team to move forward with The Stacks plan.
- The Stacks Plan builds a new multi-story addition next to the Hilton containing an ADA-accessible entrance and library, constructs a new gym in the rear, and maintains the auditorium that will also be used as the cafeteria.
- They explained they have met with the school community and neighbors and responded to questions from the Councilmembers. DCPS direction has not changed and they will move forward with The Stacks plan.
- They encouraged us to focus on providing input on the schematic design and the landscaping they presented.

- Highlights. The renovation will create 29 classrooms and will modernize the entire building, including science labs, art rooms, music rooms, student gathering spaces (referred to as “discovery commons” and “makerspace”), and will better utilize the wide hallways. Slides 16-18 show designs of the new addition.
- Slides 19-24 show the interior layout of the school.
- Slides 25-26 show layouts of classrooms with furniture.
- Slides 29-33 show outdoor landscaping and fencing designs.
- All asbestos and lead will be remediated safely in the first three months of construction.
- Grades 4-5 and middle school will be separated by floors.
- Please attend the meeting to provide feedback. Principal Pineda will not administer a feedback form to collect input.
- Community Activism Matters! Our input and activism has made a positive impact on the Adams renovation.
- We secured bus service at both the Oyster and Adams Campus to the Meyer swing space.
- Our push for a redesign ensures that Adams keeps a soccer field with the same dimensions of 7,550 square feet and maintains 3,150 square feet of vertical playspace, including tetherball.
- Additionally, under the concept redesign, the students have 3,660 square feet of a dedicated gym, 1,000 square feet of vertical playspace, and 900 square feet of outdoor classroom. Teachers maintain 22 parking spots.
