Principal Announcement by Instructional Superintendent

As we look to close out another remarkable school year at DC Public Schools (DCPS) and turn our focus toward School Year 2024-2025, I am excited to announce that Carolina Brito has been selected as the next principal of Oyster-Adams Bilingual School! I want to thank Oyster-Adams' parents, families, and community members who participated in this process, giving their time and attention and providing compelling feedback in the selection of our new school leader.

Ms. Brito is a proud advocate for Latin American heritage and has dedicated her career to fostering equitable classrooms and school communities where Black and Latino excellence can thrive. Her educational journey started with establishing a Bilingual Ethnic Studies program at a Boston high school, and most recently, she served as the principal of a K-8 dual language school within Boston Public Schools (BPS).

Before becoming an administrator, Ms. Brito served as a teacher across several subjects, including Spanish and Ethnic Studies, world history, world religions, and Advanced Placement (AP) seminars. She also spent time as the Dean of Humanities, where she directed the teacher recruitment process oriented towards mission fit and growth potential, combining efforts with year-long coaching and support.

Ms. Brito strives to coach teachers to innovate, collaborate, and execute excellent equity-driven, bilingual, anti-racist classroom instruction. While at BPS, Ms. Brito also piloted Advanced Placement (AP) Spanish in the 8th grade, allowing students to be the first public middle school students to take and pass AP exams in Massachusetts. Ms. Brito is proud of her legacy of accelerating academic achievement and fulfilling the promise of graduating brilliant, bilingual students, and she is looking forward to sharing in the future success of the Oyster-Adams community.

Ms. Brito holds a bachelor's degree in Comparative Literature & Society from Columbia University and a master's degree in special studies from Harvard University's Graduate School of Education.

I am confident that the next phase of excellence at Oyster-Adams includes the continued development and success of our scholars under the leadership of Principal Brito. I look forward to supporting her and the entire Oyster-Adams community in preparation for next school year. Should you have any questions, please email me at [email protected].

Sincerely,

Eric Bethel
