School Lunch Information
Overview
Breakfast is universally free for DCPS students. The price for lunch is $3.00 per lunch. DCPS students who are approved for free or reduced meals, will receive lunch at no charge.
The grace period for students who qualified for free lunch during school year 2023-2024 will end on the following dates:
Grades Kindergarten - 12th: October 7th, 2024
Grades PK3-PK4: October 10th, 2024
Meal charges for students who have not submitted a FARM application for SY24-25 will resume after those dates.
Details on qualifying for free lunch based on household income can be found here: dcps.dc.gov/farm. It is worth noting that this application can also help you receive reduced prices on school activities that have a fee.
Student meal accounts function as debit accounts. When a student goes through the lunch line to receive a meal they give the cafeteria manager their name or student ID number. The cost of the meal is deducted from their student meal account.
If there are insufficient funds in the student's meal account, the student still receives a meal, and the student meal account will reflect a negative balance with the associated cost. Note that parents and guardians are still responsible for satisfying all meal costs due by the end of each school year.
