Dear Oyster-Adams families,

It has been a privilege and honor to meet you this summer through our Entry Conversations at Oyster, Adams, and on Zoom! After 54 hours of entry interviews and our first July LSAT Meeting, I feel even more fortunate to be chosen as your School Leader. We are a passionate, committed, and collectively brilliant community that is eager to recenter on our mission, and work together for the common good. Thanks to your input, our leadership team is grounded in the collective challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. In September, at the first OCC meeting, we will share with you what I heard from educators, families, what trends we see in our data, and what we observe in classroom walkthroughs.  We will only generate school goals after having been in every classroom, met every staff member (including our dedicated custodians), and seeing your children in action. My personal priority is to build relationships, understand our context, and make decisions with a collective conscience.

From what I’ve learned in entry meetings, there are some important things we can improve right now. Among them is having an organized calendar for the entire year, clear procedures, and opportunities to start the school year in person during Back to School Night. The leadership team has been busy these past few weeks preparing the first draft of the annual calendar (with some dates pending input from teachers, OCC, and LSAT in September), a carefully Revised Handbook for families, and dates for start-of-the-year events. To that end, we are providing you with the resources you requested in this first newsletter of the school year.
