Dear Families of Oyster-Adams Bilingual School,
At Oyster-Adams, communicating home about leadership changes that impact our school community is critical to maintaining strong partnerships with families.
I am writing to share that our Assistant Principal Mr. Kendric Hawkins, who has been an invaluable member of our leadership team, has accepted a new opportunity to serve as an Assistant Principal at Jackson-Reed High School within DC Public Schools (DCPS), where he served previously for 9 years. This exciting role aligns with Mr. Hawkins' professional goals to continue developing his leadership in secondary education and will allow him to continue supporting our Tigres within our neighborhood’s feeder pattern.
While we will miss his leadership and dedication to the Oyster-Adams community, we are proud of his accomplishments and growth during his time with us. AP Hawkins was able to support students and staff through post-pandemic, social emotional recovery and led the Middle School team during significant leadership transitions. In my own work with Mr. Hawkins, I have been moved by his deep knowledge of each child and empathetic support of our faculty members and families. He radiates genuine joy, cares for our students’ experiences, and proactively foresees our communities’ needs—all qualities that make him an exceptional school leader. Mr. Hawkins will share the difficult news with Middle School in ALDEA today, and we will have our student support team on stand-by for any students requiring support with the news. We know that he will continue to be an asset to DCPS, and we are confident that he will bring the same commitment and passion he’s had for student success at Adams to Jackson-Reed.
Given that AP Hawkins’s last day with us will be on January 17th, AP Daniela Morad will be stepping in to support until we can appoint a qualified interim AP. With over 15 years of experience across three countries, I am confident that Ms. Morad’s leadership will ensure that our students continue to receive the highest quality education. This year, she served as the AP for 3rd-5th grades, and is an integral part of Adams, having also previously served as the Middle School Dean of Students for multiple years. Rosa Berrocal will take care of the 3rd Grade Team and families until we have a full interim Middle School AP appointed.
On Monday, we will assemble a hiring committee to review any candidates interested in taking on the Interim AP Position until June. We will hold a separate committee in the spring to appoint a Middle School Assistant Principal for the 2025-2026 school year.
It is essential that during shifts in leadership, Oyster-Adams’ environment remains focused on our students’ academic progress and social emotional development. If you have any questions, please email me at [email protected] or AP Morad at [email protected].
Sincerely,
Carolina Brito
Principal, Oyster-Adams Bilingual School
