Celebrating 8th Grade

Up first, we want to shine on our graduating 8th graders who are having an impressive final month. On May 15th, they took the AP Spanish Exams that will qualify them for college language credit or advanced coursework in Spanish. Last year, we had a near 100% pass rate, and this year are on track for the same! Our 8th graders celebrated the close of the school year with our annual tradition of three different adventures: Costa Rica, New York City, and DC. In Costa Rica, students participated in various service projects, dance lessons, hikes through ecological reserves, cooking lessons, and white-water river rafting. In New York City and DC, students experienced musical theater, historical sight-seeing, ropes courses, and museum trips aligned to their course of studies throughout the year. These incredible experiences were hard-earned by students through fund-raisers, strong EOY grades, and decisions demonstrating our community values. We're proud to have our OA Tigres representing us around the world. Thank you to all the chaperones who supported our students in their adventures (for some it was their first time travelling internationally) and kept them safe!

Students came back exhausted, but joyful from the their adventures this week! With just a couple of days to recuperate, many of our 8th grade students will be competing tomorrow in the final rounds of the National Contest - National History Day at UMD! OA swept the DC competition in March; were honored in the city-wide celebration in May; and several tigres are advancing to finals tomorrow. Wish them luck and brilliance, and thank you to Ms. Jackson who both supported the Costa Rica trip and the History Competitions!

On Wednesday, we say a bittersweet farewell to our incredible graduating class after 10 years together as we celebrate the OA 8th Grade Moving On Ceremony at Cardozo High School at 5pm. Join us, as all family and friends are welcome!

Journalists, Ambassadors, Mathletes, and Athletes

The whole staff of Tigres at The Oyster-Adams Post wants to make sure that you receive the May edition of the bilingual publication! In it, you will find brilliant original pieces, great recommendations for weekend adventures, student to student shout-outs for the Festival de Poesia, movie reviews, and much more!

The Embassy Capstone

The Embassy Capstone at Oyster Adams was a vibrant celebration of international culture and art. The Dominican Republic delegation stood out with traditional dance performed for the Ambassador. The Mexico delegation thrilled with the embassy performance of Cielito Lindo, while Spain moved everyone with "Que canten los niños." All the students presented beautiful works of art to the embassies and recited representative poems from each country. It was an event full of pride and creativity that reaffirms our school's cultural commitment to being global citizens.

Congrats to our Mathletes!

Congrats to the OA Mathletes participating in the Middle School Math Competition at Google on June 5, 2025! Our scholars proudly represented OA at the event, and were featured in a shout-out from Chancellor Ferebee.

Track Team

A warm congratulations to our OA Track Teams for an incredible season, and in particular for the resilience and advocacy of our parent coaches. Our Tigres had an incredible season across all grades at Adams, and stood out for their loving support of one another--win or lose.

With love for our community,

Carolina Brito, Principal
