Science at Oyster-Adams

Our vision for Oyster Adams science instruction is to ensure students’ innate curiosity is fostered and enriched through hands-on experiments, labs and projects. We follow both the DCPS Scope and Sequence and the Next Generation Science Standards. At the K-5 level, we enrich our curriculum with the University of California, Berkeley developed FOSS kits. Each kit includes materials for in-class experiments, teacher guides and lessons plans. FOSS kits allow for:

  • Active learning that engages students with meaningful experiences
  • An integration of robust reading and literacy to support Common Core Standards
  • A utilization of technology to deliver learning experiences and provide teachers with time-saving classroom management resources.

At the MS level, science is taught by Secondary Science specialist and students are engaged in units that provide experiments, labs, interactive science journals, evidence based writing and projects.
