Mathematics at Oyster-Adams

Our vision for Oyster Adams math instruction is to prepare our students to use mathematics in their lives, college and future careers by ensuring that:

  • Students acquire and use deep understanding of math concepts, procedural skills and fluency, and the language of mathematics to solve real-world math problems.
  • They are challenged and supported as they do mathematics
  • They persevere as they solve challenging problems and develop confidence and love for mathematics.

We follow the DCPS Scope and Sequence and the Common Core Standards, and make adaptations in order to meet the specific needs of our classrooms. Each unit ends with a culminating project or “Cornerstone” experience. As a bilingual school there is an increased emphasis on vocabulary development, use of visuals, hands on learning and use of manipulatives.
