A group of OA families is planning to attend the climate march on Friday. This is a voluntary group, independent of the school or the OCC. Please join us!
The march begins at 11am at John Marshall Park, between C St and Pennsylvania Ave, NW. Participants will march to the Capitol.
You are welcome to pick up your child and go to the march on your own or leave with our group. The group will attempt to stay together, but once you sign out your child, your child is your responsibility.
Oyster Campus Students:
- A group of OA families will leave the Oyster campus at 10:30am to join the march.
- All Oyster students MUST sign out and leave school with a parent or chosen guardian.
- If you’d like to join other Oyster families, please arrive to sign out your children by 10:15am so we can leave promptly at 10:30am.
- (Children who attend school in the morning and leave with a parent or guardian for the march will be considered present at school — they will NOT be marked absent after morning attendance is taken!)
Adams Campus Students:
- Participating families will leave the Adams campus at 10:30am.
- Students from Adams who leave school to attend the march will receive an EXCUSED absence. This will not impact their grades in any way.
- Children who are signed out by their parents do not need a note; however, children who leave on their own will need a note from their parents.
- We encourage all students to leave with an adult. Once a child leaves school grounds, the school is not responsible for his or her safety.
Reminders:
- Kids are welcome to come back to school after the march.
- Please be mindful of the weather! If it’s sunny, bring sunscreen. If it’s raining, bring umbrellas.
- Please ensure that your child knows or has a copy of your phone number in the event of an emergency. There will be thousands of people in attendance.
- And remember to have your children carry their posters! (Wooden sticks are banned from the march so please do not use a poster or sign with a wooden stick!)
- Dress in Green (or blue) on the 20th!

We expect this to be a wonderful opportunity for Oyster Adams children to be a part of the largest Climate Action in history!!!! Remember, once you sign your child out from school, they are your responsibility!

Not going on the march? Other ways to support the cause:
Oyster Campus Walk-out:
- There will be an after-school “walk out” from the Oyster campus at 3:30pm for any parents who would like to participate with their children. The walk out will start from the school gym. Parents or designated chaperones will need to pick up their kids at dismissal from the gym. The walk will take place just around the school block. There will be no street crossing.
- Important: students can be admitted back to OCA afterwards. We recognize that climate change might be an overwhelming topic for pre-K – 3rd grade students. Please contact Antonia Gambacorta with any questions about the Oyster “walk out.

¡!Únase a las familias de Oyster Adams en la Huelga Mundial por el Clima el 20 de septiembre!!
Un grupo de familias de OA participarán en la Huelga Mundial por el Clima el 20 de septiembre. Este es un grupo de familias independiente de la escuela y de OCC, acompañanos! La marcha de Washington DC comienza a las 11 de la mañana en John Marshall Park, entre la calle C y Pennsylvania Ave, Washington, DC, y de allí los participantes marcharán hacia el Capitolio.
La invitación está abierta para que recojas a tu hijo/a en la escuela y te unas al grupo o vayas por tu cuenta. El grupo intentará mantenerse unido durante la marcha pero una vez que recojas a tu hijo, tu hijo es tu responsabilidad.
Estudiantes del campus de Oyster
Si desea unirse a otras familias de Oyster, por favor llegue antes de las 10:15 am para reportar la salida de sus hijos y así salir de inmediato a las 10:30 am. (Los niños que asistan a la escuela por la mañana y se retiren con un padre, madre o tutor para participar en la marcha serán considerados presentes en la escuela – ¡NO se les marcará ausencia después de que se tome la asistencia por la mañana!)
Estudiantes del campus de Adams
Las familias de Adams saldrán del campus de Adams a las 10:30 a.m. para unirse a la marcha. Los estudiantes de Adams que abandonen la escuela para asistir a la marcha recibirán una ausencia EXCUSADA. Esto no afectará sus calificaciones de forma alguna. Los niños que sean retirados por sus padres o encargados no necesitan una autorización por escrito de sus padres , sin embargo, los niños que se van por su cuenta sí necesitarán una autorización. NO estamos animando a los estudiantes a irse por su cuenta. Estamos animando a todos los estudiantes a irse con un adulto. Una vez que un niño abandona los terrenos de la escuela, la escuela no es responsable de su seguridad.
Recordatorios:

Caminata en el campus de Oyster:
- Habrá una caminata después de la escuela desde el campus de Oyster a las 3:30 pm para los padres y encargados que quieran participar con sus hijos. La caminata comenzará desde el gimnasio de la escuela. Los padres o acompañantes designados tendrán que recoger a sus hijos a la salida del gimnasio. La caminata tendrá lugar alrededor de la manzana de la escuela. No cruzaremos ninguna calle. Importante:
- Los estudiantes podrán ser readmitidos en OCA después de la marcha.Somos conscientes de que el cambio climático puede ser un tema abrumador para los estudiantes de Pre-K a 3er grado.
