This document centralizes the Oyster-Adams Bilingual School community advocacy strategy and resources regarding the modernization of the Adams Campus. District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) intends to modernize the Adams Campus located at 2020 19th Street, NW with a project budget of $55 million. This modernization will yield incredible benefits – installing learning, instruction, and support technology at cutting-edge standards and capacities; constructing classrooms to accommodate a 21st-century learning environment; integrating discovery commons spaces, small group rooms, and resource rooms; and adhering to Americans with Disabilities Act requirements throughout the building. However, the Oyster-Adams Bilingual School community has deep concerns with current design options that construct over the existing soccer field and track.
Key Messages

- Preserve Outdoor Space for Kids. We want options that maintain the current size of the outdoor areas of the Adams Campus to support adequate outdoor play space for students, including the soccer field and track.
- The Oyster-Adams community is extremely concerned that any construction over the existing soccer field and track will severely limit outdoor space for students during recess, outdoor learning, and after-school activities.
- Keep Parking for Teachers. We want options that maintain existing parking for faculty and staff.
- Maintaining all current off-street parking for Oyster-Adams Bilingual School faculty and staff is absolutely critical for recruitment and retention – a goal that is not sufficiently met through any current concept design options. This parking enables Oyster-Adams Bilingual School to hire the very best candidates from neighborhoods across D.C., Virginia, and Maryland.
- New Designs Should Maintain Outdoor Space and Parking; No Tradeoffs. The new Adams Campus should have adequate parking and playspace. Our design should meet both goals.
- Design Will Impact Generations. Any decisions about outdoor play and parking will impact Oyster-Adams Bilingual School Community and our students for years to come.

- DCPS will present a new design option that continues to build over the existing soccer field. The school community has not seen this design.
- We anticipate this new design will reduce the number of parking spots for teachers from 36 to 11.
- The ANC will consider this resolution strongly supporting additional design concepts that protect outdoor space and parking.
