Adams Modernization Meeting Update / Actualización de la Reunión Sobre la Modernización de Adams

Today, the School Improvement Team, or SIT, met with DCPS and others to discuss the Adams renovation. The Adams Campus will be renovated beginning in the fall of 2023 through spring 2025. This is our planning year. Beginning in the fall 2023, the Adams Campus will be relocated to Meyer Elementary, located at 2501 11th Street NW.

Two critical updates:

• Transportation // Buses to Swing Space. DCPS & DGS announced that they will operate school buses from both the Oyster Campus and the Adams Campus to the Meyer building!
  • There will be 8 buses in total running from the two campuses.
  • The school will administer a new survey or registration process to identify the desired departure location for individual families.
  • The DC Department of General Services will establish a protected location away from construction supervised by school staff. Children are registered as they enter and exit the bus. Parents must be on time; buses cannot wait. Further logistics will be coordinated through the school.
• Thursday, March 9 at Adams: Feedback on SchoolDesign. The architecture firm StudioMB wants to learn more about the culture of Oyster-Adams. StudioMB is located blocks from the Adams Campus, and they have extensive experience on completing challenging urban renovation projects and school renovation projects.
  • This Thursday, March 9 at Adams, during parent-teacher conferences, StudioMB will have multiple stations to gather feedback from parents and teachers about our school’s culture. You can leave comments at any point during the day.
  • There will be separate listening sessions in the future for the design firm to hear from students.
  • A few design notes: Adams is a historic building and many aspects of the school will remain intact, including the retaining wall, facade and columns, foyer, wide hallways, tile floor, and gymnasium. The building cannot be popped up. The school will be made ADA compliant. The current windows will be used since they have been replaced recently, portions of the HVAC will be retained since that system is new, and all water issues will be fixed. All schools within DCPS – including Adams – have education specifications or required design elements.

Hoy, el Equipo de Mejoramiento Escolar, o SIT por sus siglas en inglés, se reunió con DCPS y otros para hablar sobre la renovación de Adams. El campus de Adams se renovará a partir del otoño de 2023 hasta la primavera de 2025. Este es nuestro año de planificación. A partir del otoño de 2023, el campus de Adams se trasladará a la escuela primaria Meyer, ubicada en 2501 11th Street NW.

Dos actualizaciones críticas:

• Transporte // Autobuses a Swing Space. ¡DCPS y DGS anunciaron que operarán autobuses escolares desde Oyster Campus y Adams Campus hasta el edificio Meyer!
  • Habrá 8 autobuses en total saliendo de los dos campus.
