| We hope you had a great week! At this stage of the year, it’s all about finishing strong and enjoying the moment(s). Finishing strong looks like maintaining a tight instructional focus as our students prepare to show their year-long progress. Over the weekend, we received several emails from parents. The first one started by saying “Hola Sr. Pineda – You hear from us parents when things don’t go well, so I wanted to make sure you also heard from us when things go beautifully.” This group of parents wanted to share the positive experience of their students in Spain. THANK YOU for the message. We’d also like to extend our gratitude to all chaperones and especially to Dani Morad and Angelica Rivera for their countless hours planning this trip! Please take a few minutes to go over the following information, reflections, and updates. As usual, feel free to reach out if you have questions or comments. Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month As a school family, we’d like to invite all members of the community to celebrate everyone who identifies as Asian American and Pacific Islander. During May, we’ll intentionally recognize and reflect in our classrooms about the impactful contributions and influence of multiple generations of AAPI who have strengthened our nation. Through May, you will see examples of the work we are doing to strengthen the socio-cultural competence of our students through discussion, readings, and projects that you will witness. Teacher Appreciation Week There aren’t enough words to thank our teachers and teacher partners for their hard, hard work. Their job is not only limited to ensuring rigorous instruction, but they also go way beyond that. Teachers are the soul of our school! We have seen endless hours of dedication and caring for our tigers. We admire their creativity, patience, commitment, and passion for what they do. I am honored to lead a group of powerful educators at Oyster Adams. I am humbled to work with them and learn alongside them how to make this world a better place. Hats off to all teachers and teacher partners. Can you host a Spanish Chaperone? We are currently looking for some volunteers who can open their home to host some Spanish teachers who will be visiting us from May 15 – 26. This is part of the exchange program in which some of our 7th graders and staff members participated. If you are able to host, please reach out to Daniela Morad and Rebeca Rodriguez. PARCC Continues at Adams and Starts at Oyster This Week As we mentioned at the beginning of this weekly message, it is time to show everything we have been working on during the year. Teachers have worked with our tigers to ensure they know and are able to show the skills needed to perform well on this assessment that goes from grades 3 through 8 in English and Math. We are 100% confident that our tigers can do this. Once again, we’d like to highlight the importance of this type of assessment for our school community. PARCC is a federally mandated exam used by OSSE for accountability. This exam is the one that ranks us as a school compared to other schools. For every student who does not take the exam, the school is negatively impacted. Enrollment This is an important phase for the strategic planning structures for the next academic school year. With an early enrollment and re-enrollment data (everyone has to enroll again even if they recently did it), we will be able to create a sound schedule and will know the staff needs. In the case of students who will be in grades 4-8, this data will help us create the staggered schedule for buses between Adams and Oyster and the swing space. Here is the link for you to complete the process, and if you need any form of support, please stop by school to get in- person support from members of our staff in the main office. Starting next week, I will share weekly updates on where we are in enrollment by grade level. Come and enroll your student next Saturday at Adams during Fiesta. This is an additional opportunity where we’ll be working that day to support you in the process. We Have Been invited to Perform at the Kennedy Center We’re very excited because we’ve been awarded a performance at the Performing Arts Festival. This will happen on May 22 sometime between 12:20- 2:20 p.m. We’ll share some additional information as it becomes available. Students Attendance and Early Dismissal We understand the needs of families and how sometimes it is difficult for them to schedule important appointments for their children. We also know the impact that attendance and early release have on the performance of our tigers. This is why we highly encourage you to schedule everything after 3:30 p.m. as much as possible. | ¡Espero que hayan tenido una gran semana! En esta etapa del año, se trata de terminar fuerte y disfrutar del (los) momento (s). Terminar fuerte quiere decir mantener un enfoque de instrucción estricto mientras nuestro/as estudiantes se preparan para mostrar su progreso de un año. Durante el fin de semana, recibimos varios correos electrónicos de los padres de séptimo grado. El primero comenzó diciendo “Hola Sr. Pineda – Usted escucha de nosotros los padres cuando las cosas no van bien, así que quería asegurarme de que también escuchara de nosotros cuando las cosas van bien”. Este grupo de padres ha querido compartir la experiencia positiva de sus alumno/as en España. GRACIAS por el mensaje. ¡También nos gustaría extender nuestro agradecimiento a todos los acompañantes y especialmente a Dani Morad, Kendic Hawkins y Angélica Rivera por sus innumerables horas planeando este viaje! Mes de la Herencia Asiática-Americana e Isleños del Pacífico (AAPI) Como familia escolar, nos gustaría invitar a todos los miembros de la comunidad a celebrar a todo/as lo/as que se identifican como asiático/a-americano/as e isleño/as del Pacífico. Durante mayo, reconoceremos y reflexionaremos intencionalmente en nuestras aulas sobre las contribuciones impactantes y la influencia de múltiples generaciones de AAPI que han fortalecido nuestra nación. Durante el mes de mayo, verán ejemplos del trabajo que estamos haciendo para fortalecer la competencia sociocultural de nuestro/as estudiantes a través de discusiones, lecturas y proyectos que ustedes presenciarán. Semana de Apreciación al Maestro No hay palabras suficientes para agradecer a nuestro/as maestro/as y docentes acompañantes por su arduo trabajo. Su esfuerzo no solo se limita a garantizar una instrucción rigurosa, sino que también van mucho más allá de eso. ¡Lo/as maestro/as son el alma de nuestra escuela! Hemos visto interminables horas de dedicación y cuidado del cuidado de ello/as para nuestro/as tigres. Admiramos su creatividad, paciencia, compromiso y pasión por lo que hacen. Me siento honrado de dirigir un grupo de educadores poderosos en Oyster Adams. Me siento alagado de trabajar con ello/as y aprender junto a ello/as cómo hacer de este mundo un lugar mejor. ¿Puedes alojar a un acompañante España? Actualmente estamos buscando algunos voluntarios que puedan abrir su casa para recibir a alguno/as profesores de España que nos visitarán del 15 al 26 de mayo. Esto es parte del programa de intercambio en el que participaron algunos de nuestro/as estudiantes de 7º grado y miembros del personal. PARCC continúa en Adams y comienza en Oyster esta semana Como mencionamos al principio de este mensaje semanal, es hora de mostrar todo lo que hemos estado trabajando durante el año. Lo/as maestro/as han trabajado con nuestro/as tigres para asegurarse de que conozcan y puedan mostrar las habilidades necesarias para desempeñarse bien en esta evaluación que va de los grados 3 a 8 en inglés y matemáticas. Estamos 100% seguro/as de que nuestro/as tigres pueden hacer esto. Una vez más, nos gustaría destacar la importancia de este tipo de evaluación para nuestra comunidad escolar. PARCC es un examen obligatorio federal utilizado por OSSE para la rendición de cuentas. Este examen es el que nos clasifica como escuela en comparación con otras escuelas. Por cada estudiante que no toma el examen, la escuela se ve afectada negativamente. Inscripciones/matriculas Esta es una fase importante para las estructuras de planificación estratégica para el próximo año escolar académico. Con una inscripción temprana y datos de reinscripción (todos tienen que inscribirse nuevamente, incluso si lo hicieron recientemente), podremos crear un horario sólido y conoceremos las necesidades del personal. En el caso de lo/as estudiantes que estarán en los grados 4-8, estos datos nos ayudarán a crear el horario escalonado para los autobuses entre Adams y Oyster y el espacio de temporal (Meyer). Aquí está el enlace para que completen el proceso, y si necesitan algún tipo de apoyo, pasen por la escuela para obtener apoyo en persona de los miembros de nuestro personal en la oficina principal. A partir de la próxima semana, compartiré actualizaciones semanales sobre dónde estamos en la inscripción por nivel de grado. Vengan e inscribe a sus estudiantes el próximo sábado en Adams durante Fiesta. Esta es una oportunidad adicional en la que trabajaremos ese día para apoyar a las familias en el proceso. Hemos sido invitados a actuar en el Kennedy Center Estamos muy emocionados porque nos han premiado con una actuación en el Festival de Artes Escénicas en el Kennedy Center. Esto sucederá el 22 de mayo en algún momento entre las 12:20 y las 2:20 p.m. Compartiremos información adicional a medida que esté disponible. Asistencia de estudiantes y salida temprano Entendemos las necesidades de las familias y cómo a veces es difícil programar citas importantes para sus hijo/as. También sabemos el impacto que la asistencia y la salida de la escuela anticipada tienen en el rendimiento de nuestro/as tigres.
