We hope everyone had a great weekend and is enjoying the arrival of spring.

Escuela de Padres – Dual Language Education (Follow up)
Our students are always noticing what we do, how we do it, and why. This is why it’s so important to become bi- or multi-literate role models for our tigers. They noticed how often we read and write and in what language. Here are just a few ideas to help our tigers value and fall in love with reading and writing in both or more languages.
Encourage Bi or Multi-Literacy at Home
- When possible, tell stories and read books together as a family in both languages.
- Create routines around reading and writing at home and establish days and times for these activities.
- Talk to students about what they’re reading and writing at school and ask them to share their work.
- Listen to audiobooks to help students with their fluency and pronunciation of some words.
- Help students expand their vocabulary by explaining the meaning of new words or by learning a new word every day together.
- Check out materials from the library that are at their reading grade level or higher.
- Encourage students to read and write about different types of genres that vary from fiction to non-fiction.
- Watch movies and tv shows in the target language. Switch their favorite show to the target language and add subtitles so they’re learning around something familiar. Make sure it’s age appropriate.
- Label objects and activities in their second or third language at home to practice vocabulary.
National Assistant Principals Week
This week is National Assistant Principals Week. Please join me celebrating our assistant principals: Ms. Berrocal, Mr. Hawkins and Mr. Meliotis. We recognize and value the tremendous impact they have on the success of our school. THAK YOU Rosa, Hawk and Peter, we appreciate you.

- Good luck to our 4th graders on their overnight trip to Philadelphia this week.
- We also want to wish our tigers at the Oyster campus good luck in their first STEM showcase this week.
- Middle School PARCC testing will start next week.
- We wish a Happy Passover to all students and families who celebrate. We also want to acknowledge that this week is Holy Week.
- Please remember that April is school library month, and we want to celebrate all the hard work that Laura and Stephen do for our school.
- It’s time to enroll in DCPS for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year! Visit https://enrolldcps.dc.gov/ to complete enrollment, be reminded that the lottery-match enrollment deadline is May 1. This will help us with all the strategic planning for the SY 23-24.

Escuela de Padres – Educación en Lenguaje Dual (Seguimiento)
Nuestro/as estudiantes siempre se dan cuenta de lo que hacemos, cómo lo hacemos y por qué. Es por eso que es tan importante convertirse en modelos bi o multi-literado/as para nuestros tigres. Ello/as se dan cuenta de la frecuencia con la que leemos y escribimos y en qué idioma. Aquí hay algunas ideas para ayudar a nuestros tigres a valorar y enamorarse de la lectura y la escritura en ambos o más idiomas.
Fomentar la alfabetización bi o multi-alfabetización en el hogar
- Cuando sea posible, cuenten historias y lean libros junto/as como familia en ambos idiomas.
- Creen rutinas en torno a la lectura y la escritura en casa y establezcan días y horarios para estas actividades.
- Hablen con lo/as estudiantes sobre lo que están leyendo y escribiendo en la escuela y pídanles que compartan su trabajo.
- Escuchen audiolibros para ayudar a lo/as estudiantes con su fluidez y la pronunciación de algunas palabras.
- Ayuden a lo/as estudiantes a ampliar su vocabulario explicando el significado de nuevas palabras o introduciendo una nueva palabra todos los días.
- Echen un vistazo a los materiales de la biblioteca que están en su nivel de grado de lectura o superior.
- Animen a lo/as estudiantes a leer y escribir sobre diferentes tipos de géneros que varían de ficción a no ficción.
- Vean películas y programas de televisión en el segundo o tercer idioma. Cambien su programa favorito a ese idioma ese y agreguen subtítulos para que ello/as aprendan algo familiar. Asegúrense de que sea apropiado para la edad.
- Etiqueten los objetos y actividades en su segundo o tercer idioma en casa para practicar vocabulario.
Semana nacional de subdirectores
Esta semana es la Semana Nacional de Subdirectores. Por favor, únanse a mí para celebrar a nuestros subdirectores: la Sra. Berrocal, el Sr. Hawkins y el Sr. Meliotis. - También queremos desearle buena suerte a nuestro/as tigres en el campus de Oyster en su primera exhibición de STEM esta semana.
- Las pruebas PARCC de la escuela intermedia comenzarán la próxima semana.
- Le deseamos un Feliz Passover a todo/as lo/as estudiantes y familias que lo celebran. También queremos reconocer que esta semana es Semana Santa.
- Recuerden que abril es el mes de la biblioteca escolar, y queremos celebrar todo el arduo trabajo que Laura y Steven hacen por nuestra escuela.
