I hope everyone enjoyed an extra hour of sleep and is as ready as I am to enjoy the spring. We would like to thank parents for attending a very successful round of parent-teacher conferences. I’ve received a lot of positive comments.
Please take a few minutes to go over the following information, reflections, and updates. As usual, feel free to reach out if you have any questions or comments.
Adams Modernization, SIT, and Swing Space
We’d like to start by thanking members of the community for their partnership, feedback, and asking good questions about the process. In addition, we want to thank OCC and Stacia Cardille for crafting immediate and detailed information about the SIT meeting. We are excited to announce that DCPS is finalizing the negotiation with a bus company to provide transportation for the neighborhood families to and from the swing space to both campuses for the next two years. At this point, the number of buses and staggered schedules have not been assigned and created yet.
During the in-person SIT meeting, we’re able to provide hands-on feedback to the architects and construction company about what we would like to see in our school. There was an additional opportunity for the rest of the community to provide their feedback, at the school’s request, during parent-teacher conferences. The rest of the community could also provide their feedback by using the following form.
We will be sending an additional form in the next few weeks to help us to gather accurate information about transportation requests of the neighborhood parents. We identified that the 386 responses were not an accurate number for the 375 current students at the Adams campus. Knowing that almost 50% of our students live in out of boundary, we will resurvey all families who will re-enroll their students next year to be at Meyer (swing space). Finally, we shared some photos of the swing space on our Instagram page (oysteradams_tigers).
The admin team was excited to see that we will have more classrooms for next year, and therefore some teachers will not have to share classrooms. We also saw a great outdoor space for our students to play, a bigger and more modern library and science lab, a bigger cafeteria, more natural light, more space for offices, a huge parking lot, and access to public transportation (two metro stations and bus stops in front of school). All classrooms also have smart boards that are in good working condition according to the current school’s administration.

- The school will host the second virtual Escuela de Padres on dual language education and how to support our language learners at home. The Meeting is on Monday, March 13 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. and you can join through the following link.
- OCC will have their monthly virtual meeting on Thursday, March 16 from 7:30-8:30 p.m.
- March is National Social Work Month. Join us celebrating and recognizing the hard work that Ms. Naves, Ms. Shaw, and Ms. Hanson do for us and for our school community.

Modernización Adams, SIT y Swing Space
Nos gustaría comenzar agradeciendo a los miembros de la comunidad por su colaboración, comentarios y hacer buenas preguntas sobre el proceso. Además, queremos agradecer a OCC y a Stacia Cardille por elaborar información inmediata y detallada sobre la reunión de SIT. Nos complace anunciar que DCPS está finalizando la negociación con una compañía de autobuses para proporcionar transporte para las familias del vecindario hacia y desde el espacio provisional a ambos campus durante los próximos dos años. En este punto, el número de autobuses y horarios escalonados aún no se han asignado y creado.
Durante la reunión SIT en persona, pudimos proporcionar comentarios prácticos a los arquitecto/as y a la empresa constructora sobre lo que nos gustaría ver en nuestra escuela. Hubo una oportunidad adicional para que el resto de la comunidad proporcionara sus comentarios, a petición de la escuela, durante las conferencias de padres y maestro/as. El resto de la comunidad también podría proporcionar sus comentarios utilizando el siguiente formulario.
A través de otro formulario que enviaremos en unas semanas, nos ayudará a recopilar información precisa sobre las solicitudes de transporte de los padres del vecindario. Identificamos que las 386 respuestas no eran un número exacto para el total de 375 estudiantes en el campus de Adams. Sabiendo que casi el 50% de nuestro/as estudiantes viven fuera de los límites, volveremos a encuestar a todas las familias que se inscribirán nuevamente en la escuela para el próximo año. Esto nos ayudara con datos precisos para planificar los horarios escalonados. Finalmente, compartimos algunas fotos del espacio de columpios en nuestra página de Instagram (oysteradams_tigers).
El equipo de administración estaba emocionado de ver que tendremos más aulas para el próximo año y, por lo tanto, algunos maestro/as no tendrán que compartir aulas. También vimos un gran espacio al aire libre para que nuestro/as estudiantes jueguen, una biblioteca y un laboratorio de ciencias más grandes y modernos, una cafetería más grande, más luz natural, más espacio para oficinas, un enorme estacionamiento y acceso al transporte público (metros y buses). Todas las aulas también tienen pizarras inteligentes que están en buenas condiciones de funcionamiento de acuerdo con la administración actual de la escuela.

- La escuela liderará la segunda Escuela de Padres virtual sobre educación bilingüe y cómo apoyar a nuestro/as estudiantes de idiomas en casa. La Reunión es el lunes 13 de marzo de 5:30-6:30 p.m. y puedes unirte a través del siguiente enlance.
- OCC tendrá su reunión virtual mensual el jueves 16 de marzo de 7:30 a 8:30 p.m.
- Marzo es el Mes Nacional del Trabajo Social. Únase a nosotros celebrando y reconociendo el arduo trabajo que la Sra. Naves, la Sra. Shaw y la Sra. Hanson hacen por nosotro/as y por nuestra comunidad escolar.
