Last week, we celebrated the 100th day of school. This is an exciting milestone, and it reminds us that we are more than halfway through the year. It is an important time to reflect on what we have accomplished, celebrate it, recalibrate our priorities, and assess our goals for the rest of the year.
This week, we have several important celebrations before we go on a well-deserved break. We would like to wish everyone who celebrates Valentine’s Day a fantastic day.

Escuela de Padres Follow Up on Conscious Discipline (Two Positive Choices)
We’d like to share one strategy that we use at school with a power impact on students’ social and emotional development. It is called “Two Positive Choices.” This strategy reinforces a student’s power of free will while providing acceptable parameters for behavior. Here are some suggested steps to implement it.
- Breathe deeply and make a conscious decision to focus on what you want your student to do.
- Tell your student, “You have a choice!” in an upbeat tone.
- Clearly state two choices that will achieve the goal.
- Complete the process by asking the student for a commitment.
- Notice the student’s choice.
This way we are empowering our students to make decisions with controlled choices of what we want to see in them. Here are two short videos (1 and 2) that will give you a few examples. This tool can be used for children and for teens.
Adams Modernization: SIT and Transportation Updates
This week, the administration team had the opportunity to meet with the operations team to have initial conversations about the transportation to and from swing space (Meyer ES). We also schedule the second SIT meeting. Here are the most recent updates.
- This week, we will share a form to identify the number of buses that will be required for next school year. It is very important that we complete the form for planning purposes. This form will be for current 3rd to 7th grade families.
- The proposal for transportation to and from Adams-Meyer and Oyster-Meyers is being considered based on feedback from our school community. The final approval has not been made yet.
- As a school, we will do our best to separate students by cohorts in the buses – elementary with elementary and middle school with middle school students.
- Each bus will have a bus attendant to support the commute (estimated as 6-10 minutes from Adams).
- School will create staggered schedules due to the limitations of the parking space on 19th street – 11th street has more space.
- The next SIT meeting is on 3/7 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. and will be in person to see the initial drawings from the architects. The operations team will be present, and they will give us an update on the bus request.
- We’re also working with the administration of the school currently at the swing space to coordinate another school visit to make the video or take pictures to share with everyone. We’ll keep you posted.
Other announcements
- OCC is hosting their monthly virtual meeting this Thursday 2/16 from 7:30-8:30 p.m.
- This month, we will not have cafecitos because it’s a short month with a week-long break.
- The Oyster campus is hosting a Literacy Night for 1st grade on 2/16.
- We will again test to return after the February break. Everyone is expected to submit their results by 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 26 through the following link. We’ll also distribute tests for the whole school this week.
- We are happy to announce that school will participate in a Spanish Spelling Bee from grades 3rd to 8th. We will share the details this week.
- We are also happy to announce that MS Musical is coming back this spring: there will be auditions the week of 2/27.
- We will host an in-person Open House for prospective families on 4/27 at 9:00 a.m. at the Oyster campus.
- Next week, we will not send our normal weekly communication.
- Black History and Legacy Month – we continue with the celebrations this week (door decorations and lessons/ reflections). We will share more details for an end of the month big celebration at the Adams campus on 3/3.

La semana pasada, celebramos el día 100 de clases. Este es un evento emocionante, y nos recuerda que estamos a más de la mitad del año escolar. Es un momento importante para reflexionar sobre lo que hemos logrado, celebrarlo, recalibrar nuestras prioridades y evaluar nuestras metas para el resto del año.
Esta semana, tenemos varias celebraciones importantes antes de ir a un merecido descanso. Nos gustaría desear a todo/as lo/as que celebran el Día de San Valentín un día fantástico.

Escuela de Padres Seguimiento de la Disciplina Consciente (Dos Opciones Positivas)
Nos gustaría compartir una estrategia que utilizamos en la escuela con un impacto de poder en el desarrollo social y emocional de lo/as estudiantes. Se llama “Dos opciones positivas”. Esta estrategia refuerza el poder de libre albedrío de un/a estudiante al tiempo que proporciona parámetros aceptables para el comportamiento. Aquí hay algunos pasos sugeridos para implementarla.
- Respiren profundamente y tomen una decisión consciente para concentrarse en lo que quieren que haga su estudiante.
- Díganle: “¡Tienes una opción!” en un tono optimista.
- Establezca claramente dos opciones que lograrán el objetivo.
- Completen el proceso pidiéndole al/ a la estudiante un compromiso.
- Noten y digan la elección del/ de la estudiante de forma explícita.
De esta manera estamos empoderando a nuestro/as estudiantes para que tomen decisiones con elecciones controladas de lo que queremos ver en ellos. Aquí hay dos videos cortos (1 y 2) que les darán algunos ejemplos. Esta herramienta se puede utilizar con niño/as y con adolescentes.
Modernización de Adams: Actualizaciones de SIT y transporte
Esta semana, el equipo de administración tuvo la oportunidad de reunirse con el equipo de operaciones para tener conversaciones iniciales sobre el transporte hacia y desde la escuela provisional (Meyer ES). También programamos la segunda reunión de SIT. Aquí están las actualizaciones más recientes.
- Esta semana, compartiremos un formulario para identificar la cantidad de autobuses que se requerirán para el próximo año escolar. Es muy importante que completemos el formulario para fines de planificación. Este formulario será para las familias actuales de 3º a 7º grado.
- La propuesta de transporte hacia y desde Adams-Meyer y Oyster-Meyers se está considerando con base en los comentarios de nuestra comunidad escolar. La aprobación final aún no se ha hecho.
- Como escuela, haremos todo lo posible para separar a los estudiantes por grupos en los autobuses: primaria con primaria y secundaria con estudiantes de secundaria.
- Cada autobús tendrá un asistente de autobús para apoyar el viaje diario (estimado entre 6-10 minutos desde Adams).
- La escuela creará horarios escalonados debido a las limitaciones del espacio de estacionamiento en la calle 19, la calle 11 tiene más espacio.
- La próxima reunión de SIT es el 3/7 de 3:30 a 4:30 p.m. y será en persona para ver los dibujos iniciales de lo/as arquitecto/as. El equipo de operaciones estará presente y nos darán una actualización sobre la solicitud del transporte.
- También estamos trabajando con la administración de la escuela que está en sesión en el lugar provisional para coordinar otra visita a la escuela para hacer el video o tomar fotos para compartir con todo/as. Lo/as mantendremos informado/as.

- Este mes, no tendremos cafecitos porque es un mes corto con un descanso de una semana.
- El campus de Oyster está organizando una Noche de Alfabetización para 1er grado el 2/16.
- Volveremos a requerir resultados de prueba de COVID para volver después de las vacaciones de febrero. Se espera que todo/as envíen los resultados de lo/as estudiantes antes de las 7:00 p.m. del domingo 26 de febrero a través del siguiente enlace.También distribuiremos pruebas para toda la escuela esta semana.
- Nos complace anunciar que la escuela participará en un concurso de ortografía en español desde los grados 3º a 8º. Compartirán los detalles esta semana.
- También nos complace anunciar que Musical de la escuela media regresará esta primavera: habrá audiciones la semana del 2/27.
- Organizaremos una sesión para posibles futuras familias el 4/27 a las 9:00 a.m. en el campus de Oyster.
- La próxima semana, no enviaremos nuestra comunicación semanal.
- Mes de la Historia Negra y el Legado: continuamos con las celebraciones de esta semana (decoraciones de puertas y lecciones / reflexiones). Compartiremos más detalles para una gran celebración de fin de mes en el campus de Adams el 3/3.
