Hispanic and Latino Heritage Month Celebrations
Last Friday was my first time attending “La Noche,” and I was blown away by the turnout, the food, and the connection. We have big shout outs for Carla Ferris, Cristina Regojo Gedan and Claudia Palacios! Carla — thank you for coordinating with OCC the logistics of the event. Claudia, thank you for that great exhibition with the pictures of our Latino/a/e/x and Hispanic students.
But this is not all, we cannot wait to hear our tigers sing Selena at the lower campus this week. I saw the practices and, as always, Manny hit it out of the park. I’m so proud of our community for creating identity mirrors and windows for our students to feel a sense of belonging.

Book Fair – We Invite You to Join Us for Our First Bilingual Book Fair in Three Years!
From 10/31-11/4 our gym at Oyster will transform into a bilingual bookstore, filled to the brim with high-quality children’s literature. We are proud to announce that over 500 titles will be in Spanish, many from Latin America and Spain. Children from Oyster will come to the Fair during their scheduled library class and children from Adams will come to the Fair during scheduled field trips throughout the week. On Thursday, 11/3, from 6:00 to 7:00 the Critterdude will bring snakes to the Fair. There we also be teachers’ Wish Lists so families can purchase books for their children’s classrooms. Our Book Fair schedule is as follows:
- Monday: 8:00 am-4:00 pm
- Tuesday: 8:00 am-7:00 pm
- Wednesday: 8:00 am-7:00 pm
- Thursday: 8:00 am-7:00 pm
- Friday: 8:00 am-4:00 pm

Input in the District’s Capital Commitment Strategic Plan
All fall we have been gathering feedback on the next iteration of the Capital Commitment; the 5-year strategic plan for DCPS. Through interactive listening sessions over the last two months, our families, community members, staff and students have been sharing valuable insights that will be used to build the next Capital Commitment Strategic Plan.

Celebraciones del Mes de la Herencia Hispana y Latina
El viernes pasado fue la primera vez que asistí a “La Noche”, y me quedé impresionado por la participación, la comida y la conexión. ¡Estamos muy agradecido/a con Carla Ferris, Cristina Regojo Gedan y Claudia Palacios! Carla — gracias por coordinar con OCC la logística del evento. Claudia, gracias por esa gran exposición con las fotos de nuestros estudiantes latinos / a / e / x e hispanos.
Pero esto no es todo, no podemos esperar a escuchar a nuestro/as tigres cantar “Selena” en el campus de Oyster esta semana. Vi las prácticas y, como siempre, el señor Hernandez ha hecho un gran trabajo. Estoy muy orgulloso de nuestra comunidad por crear espejos y ventanas de identidad para que nuestro/as estudiantes sientan un sentido de pertenencia.

Feria del Libro – ¡Lo/as invitamos a unirte a nosotro/as para nuestra primera Feria del Libro Bilingüe en tres años!
Del 31/10 al 4/11, nuestro gimnasio en Oyster se transformará en una librería bilingüe, llena hasta el borde de literatura infantil de alta calidad. Estamos orgulloso/as de anunciar que más de 500 títulos estarán en español, muchos de América Latina y España. Lo/as niño/as de Oyster vendrán a la Feria durante su clase programada de la biblioteca y lo/as niño/as de Adams vendrán a la Feria durante las excursiones programadas durante toda la semana. El jueves, 11/3, de 6:00 a 7:00 p.m. el Critterdude traerá serpientes a la Feria. Allí también tenemos listas de deseos de lo/as maestro/as para que las familias puedan comprar libros para las aulas de sus hijo/as. Nuestro calendario de la Feria del Libro es el siguiente:

- miércoles: 8:00 am-7:00 pm

Aportes en el Plan Estratégico de Compromiso Capital del Distrito
Durante todo el otoño DCPS ha estado recopilando comentarios sobre la próxima iteración del plan estratégico del Compromiso Capital de 5 años para DCPS. A través de sesiones interactivas de escucha durante los últimos dos meses, nuestras familias, miembros de la comunidad, personal y estudiantes han estado compartiendo ideas valiosas que se utilizarán para construir el próximo Plan Estratégico de Compromiso de Capital.
