We hope you enjoyed your long weekend and that you took some time to rest and reconnect with loved ones. Thank you for a great round of parent-teacher conferences. We heard many positive comments that encouraged us to celebrate and feel very proud of what we do at OA.
Please take a few minutes to read some additional information, and a few reminders. As usual, continue reaching out directly with school with your questions, comments, or suggestions.
Indigenous Peoples’ Day
Chancellor Lewis last year shared a message about the meaning of this day and his message resonates with what we believe at OA: “Our history as a country begins with Indigenous peoples and Native nations, a fact that has been too often overlooked and actively suppressed.” Here are some resources to reflect upon as we honor this day.

Looking for Book Fair Volunteers! Please sign up here
The Oyster-Adams Bilingual Book Fair 2022 is ON – please join us to continue this wonderful tradition, which brings a huge selection of Spanish-language (and English! and bilingual!) books to our community! We are looking for volunteers to set up (and break down) the Book Fair, and to work the cash register (you will be trained, don’t worry!). There are volunteer slots available from Saturday, 10/29 through Friday, 11/4. If you can move heavy boxes of books, we especially need your help during the set up on Saturday 10/29. If you like books, meeting OA families, and helping support our OA librarians Ms. Kleinmann and Mr. Burch, this is the right opportunity for you!

A few reminders
- We hope we get to see everyone on Friday when we celebrate the end of the Hispanic and Latino Heritage Month at La Noche. It will be at Adams after school.
- Elementary school students will have a new report card this year. We will share the information in the next weeks.
- This week on Wednesday, we will have the last round of mix and mingles with the parents of our six graders. Unfortunately, I’ll not be able to attend due to a principal cluster meeting.
- We’ve noticed a significant increase in the number of families picking up students early. We understand that there are reasons for that, but we encourage families to try to schedule their appointments after 3:30 p.m. so that we do not interrupt classes with constant calls for dismissal.
Esperamos que hayan disfrutado de su fin de semana largo y que se hayan tomado un tiempo para descansar y reconectarse con sus seres queridos. Gracias por una gran ronda de conferencias de padres y maestro/as. Escuchamos muchos comentarios positivos que nos animan a celebrar y sentirnos muy orgulloso/as de lo que hacemos en OA.

Día de los Pueblos Indígenas
El canciller Lewis compartió el año pasado un mensaje sobre el significado de este día y su mensaje resuena con lo que creemos en OA: “Nuestra historia como país comienza con los pueblos indígenas y las naciones nativas, un hecho que con demasiada frecuencia se ha pasado por alto y se ha suprimido activamente”. ¡Estamos buscando voluntario/as para la Feria del Libro! Por favor, inscríbase aquí
La Feria del Libro Bilingüe Oyster-Adams 2022 está en marcha – por favor, ¡únanse a nosotros/as para continuar esta maravillosa tradición, que trae una gran selección de libros en español (e inglés y bilingües) a nuestra comunidad! Estamos buscando voluntario/as para montar (y desmontar) la Feria del Libro y para trabajar en la caja registradora (¡habrá diversión, no se preocupen!). Hay espacios para voluntario/as desde el sábado, 29 de octubre hasta el viernes, 4 de noviembre. Si pueden mover cajas pesadas de libros, necesitamos especialmente su ayuda durante el montaje del sábado, 29 de octubre. Si les gustan los libros, conocer a las familias de OA y ayudar a nuestro/as bibliotecario/as de OA, la Sra. Kleinmann y el Sr. Burch, ¡esta es la oportunidad adecuada!

Algunos recordatorios
- Esperamos poder ver a todos el viernes cuando celebremos el final del Mes de la Herencia Hispana y Latina en La Noche. Será en Adams después de la escuela.
- Lo/as estudiantes de escuela primaria tendrán un nuevo boletín de calificaciones este año. Enviaremos la información en las siguientes semanas.
- Esta semana, el miércoles, tendremos el Mix and Mingle para sexto. Desafortunadamente no podré asistir debido a una reunión de directores ese día.
- Hemos notado un aumento significativo en el número de familias que recogen a los estudiantes temprano. Entendemos que hay razones para eso, pero alentamos a las familias a tratar de programar cualquier cita después de las 3:30 p.m. para que no interrumpamos las clases con constantes llamadas de despido y el aprendizaje de nuestro/as tigres.
