It was great to be back at school after a well-deserved break. I had a great time in Colombia with my family, and now I feel energized and rested to tackle the second academic semester. The admin team and I have been reflecting on all the school accomplishments and identifying what we need to focus on to support our school community. We’ll prioritize tasks and make informed decisions based on what is best for our tigers, staff, and families. We’ll share some of our reflections at the beginning of February, when we have all data points available.
Please take a few minutes to read the following information and reminders. As usual, feel free to reach out directly to the school if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions.
Adams Renovation
We just learned that over the break the renovation contract was assigned. Last Friday, I had the opportunity to meet the staff from DCPS, DGS, and the architects and we walked around school. They also confirm that we will have our first official meeting in January with the School Improvement Team (SIT).
At the end of last year, some members of the admin team had the opportunity to visit Meyer, our swing space. This is the school where we will be for two years. We felt very comfortable after seeing the facilities. We also had the chance to talk to the principal of the school who is currently there, and she shared that there were no concerns that we should be aware of. Finally, we want to express our commitment to ensuring the smoothest and safest transition and share any additional information, as it becomes available.
Escuela de Padres – Conscious Discipline
We are happy to announce the second round of escuela de padres for this year. This time the topic is Conscious Discipline. We’ll share why we use this general framework for social emotional development, some of the common practices from Pk4 all the way to 8th grade, and some resources for families to use at home. This event will be hosted virtually on Tuesday, January 31 from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. Please use this link to attend.
OA Open House for prospective families
This year, we’ll host two Open Houses primarily for PK4 and K students with some general information for the other grades. The presentation will be bilingual and the first one will be virtual on January 23 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. (here is the official link). The second Open House will be in person at the Oyster campus on February 27 from 9:00-10:00 a.m. We will send reminders prior to those meetings.
Field Trips are back
We’re happy to announce we are collaborating to bring back the domestic and international trips for our tigers. We want to thank all families who are supporting the school to make these experiences possible. We’ll communicate the plans by the end of the month.
Cafecitos are back
We’re hosting two cafecitos this month – one at each campus to share updates and hear input from our families. This month, the cafecitos will be in person as follows:
- January 20 from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at Oyster
- January 23 from 9:00-10:00 a.m. at Adams

Fue genial estar de vuelta en la escuela después de un merecido descanso. La pasé muy bien en Colombia con mi familia, y ahora me siento energizado y descansado para afrontar el segundo semestre académico. El equipo administrativo y yo hemos estado reflexionando sobre todos los logros escolares e identificando en qué debemos enfocarnos para apoyar a nuestra comunidad escolar. Priorizaremos las tareas y tomaremos decisiones informadas basadas en lo que es mejor para nuestros tigres, personal y familias. Compartiremos algunas de nuestras reflexiones a principios de febrero, cuando tengamos todos los puntos de datos disponibles.

Renovación de Adams
Acabamos de enterarnos de que durante el receso se asignó el contrato de renovación. El viernes pasado, tuve la oportunidad de conocer al personal de DCPS, DGS y lo/as arquitecto/as que trabajaran directamente en el proyecto. También confirman que tendremos nuestra primera reunión oficial en enero con el Equipo de Mejora Escolar (SIT).
A finales del año pasado, algunos miembros del equipo administrativo tuvieron la oportunidad de visitar Meyer, nuestro espacio provisional. Esta es la escuela donde estaremos durante dos años. Nos sentimos muy cómodo/as después de ver las instalaciones. También tuvimos la oportunidad de hablar con la directora de la escuela que está actualmente allí, y ella compartió que no había preocupaciones que debamos tener en cuenta. Finalmente, queremos expresar nuestro compromiso de garantizar la transición de una forma organizada y segura y compartir cualquier información adicional, a medida que esté disponible.
Escuela de Padres – Disciplina Consciente
Nos complace anunciar la segunda ronda de la escuela de padres para este año. Esta vez el tema es la Disciplina Consciente. Compartiremos por qué usamos este marco general para el desarrollo socioemocional, algunas de las prácticas comunes desde Pk4 hasta el 8º grado y algunos recursos para que las familias los usen en casa. Este evento se realizará virtualmente el martes 31 de enero de 5:00 a 6:00 p.m. Utilice este enlace para asistir.
Open House de OA para futuras familias
Este año, organizaremos dos jornadas para que las nuevas familias conozcan la escuela, principalmente para estudiantes de PK4 y K con información general para los otros grados. La presentación será bilingüe y la primera será virtual el 23 de enero de 6:00 a 7:00 p.m. (aquí está el enlace oficial). La segunda reunión será en persona en el campus de Oyster el 27 de febrero de 9:00 a 10:00 a.m. Enviaremos recordatorios antes de esas reuniones.
Vuelven las excursiones
Nos complace también anunciar que estamos colaborando para traer de vuelta los viajes nacionales e internacionales para nuestro/as tigres. Queremos agradecer a todas las familias que están apoyando a la escuela para hacer posible estas experiencias. Comunicaremos los planes antes de fin de mes.
Vuelven los cafecitos
Estamos organizando dos cafecitos este mes, uno en cada campus para compartir actualizaciones y escuchar los comentarios de nuestras familias. Este mes, los cafecitos serán presenciales de la siguiente manera:
- 20 de enero de 9:00 a 10:00 a.m. en Oyster
- 23 de enero de 9:00-10:00 a.m. en Adams
